Workplace Design Trends to Watch in 2023

By Angela Ferguson

We wanted to share some exciting workplace design trends that we can expect to see in 2023. These trends reflect the changing nature of work and the growing importance of creating spaces that are functional, flexible, and foster collaboration and creativity.

1. Flexible Workspaces: With more people working remotely and hybrid work models becoming the norm, companies are looking for ways to create flexible workspaces that accommodate different work styles and can be easily adapted to changing needs. This means incorporating furniture and design elements that are mobile and can be reconfigured quickly and easily.

2. Biophilic Design: The trend of bringing nature into the workplace is becoming increasingly popular, with many companies incorporating natural lighting, plants, natural materials, and other elements inspired by the outdoors into their office spaces. This not only helps to create a more aesthetically pleasing environment, but also has been shown to improve employee wellbeing, creativity, and productivity. CBRE completed a study which showed a 12% increase in task performance when using circadian lighting.

3. Collaboration Zones: As work becomes more collaborative and interdisciplinary, companies are creating dedicated spaces for teams to work together and exchange ideas. These collaboration zones are often designed to encourage teamwork, brainstorming, and creativity, with features like whiteboards, writable surfaces, and comfortable seating.

These trends are just a few examples of the ways that workplace design is evolving to better meet the needs of modern workers. By embracing these and other innovative design strategies, companies can create spaces that foster productivity, creativity, and wellbeing for their employees.
