As SBS television embraces the latest digital technology a newsroom that facilitated this was required

futurespace has worked with SBS on an almost constant basis over the last seven years on a range of projects. One of the most significant propositions was the refurbishment of SBS’s existing office area across 1480m2 to accommodate a new Non Linear News Room.
The brief from SBS was to break down the solid walls and provide an open space which maximised natural light and encouraged collaboration between the news, current affairs and sport teams. The internal space was also opened up to the entrance of the SBS Television building to allow staff and visitors an insight into the workings of the news room.
SBS recently rebranded so the new branding was incorporated into the physical environment. A feature backlit ceiling gives the impression of a series of large natural skylights through the space despite being in a predominantly underground environment. Nonlinear technology provides greater flexibility in being able to edit digitised video at the desk top, and the new workplace supports this process with a bench style flexible workstation system.
