futurespace was appointed to work collaboratively with FDC to create new reception, meeting and breakout zones for their team.
The previous reception was located on level 1, without direct access from the street. The reception and meeting rooms were moved to the ground floor to provide a clear point of arrival for guests. To the rear of this level, a new breakout space was created. An open stair was installed to encourage people on level one to use this breakout space and to interact with their colleagues located on the ground floor.
Once stripped back, the existing building revealed its personality and prior history in the form of beautiful timber columns and ceiling structures. These elements were cleaned up with minimal refurbishment to allow their character to become a feature of the workplace.
Lofty ceilings were taken advantage of and presented a challenge when dealing with the scale of the meeting rooms. Mirrors were applied to the bulkheads of these rooms, creating the illusion of floating the reception ceilings over the top of the meeting rooms.
FDC’s motto is “its all about cause and effect” and the physical workplace now embodies that belief.
