The history and heritage of this iconic airline is showcased for all australians

Our team was commissioned by Qantas to assess the feasibility of then design and deliver a museum on the mezzanine level of the Sydney Domestic Terminal. In addition to the displays, the museum incorporated offices for volunteers, a storage area for archives and an ‘information zone’ where students of all ages can undertake research. The project parameters involved working very closely with the Qantas Heritage Collection volunteers in parallel with external museum and archiving consultants.

The museum focuses not only on the past, but also includes displays that emphasize the future growth and initiatives of the airline. Temporary themed exhibitions provide flexibility in order to achieve these goals with a range of exciting displays showcasing the legendary airline.

The site has fantastic visual access to planes taking off and landing, both at day and during the evening. Part of the brief was to ensure the space remained flexible (in layout and function) and is available for a variety of Qantas functions for up to 200 people.

The design and delivery process was a complex one that needed to address issues inherent to the site such as security, fire engineering and visitor access as well as meet the unique requirements of 26 stakeholder groups.
