With a 100% transparent workplace, the refurbished fortescue metals embodies strength and accountability
—
futurespace has been working with Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) in Perth since early 2010 to provide a workplace that keeps pace with the rapid growth of the business. FMG’s premises are a direct result of the company’s values including maximum transparency, empowerment of the FMG team and the objective of providing an environment where ideas can be generated amongst an enthusiastic, determined culture.
One of the challenges of this project was creating a clear circulation path within a very long, winding floor plate. The solution involved planning a circulation “road” that took the shortest possible route through the workplace. The entire business is in the open plan with no enclosed offices and no solid partitions anywhere. Environmental graphics are used throughout at low height and maximum translucence in order to further promote transparency. These graphics also support the communication of the ‘mine rail port’ process to the Fortescue team. Different zones (eg: meeting, café, reception and breakout spaces) are colour coded with bold floor finishes and the materials used in the workplace mirror those of the mining business such as raw concrete and other materials, natural minerals and earth tones.
The FMG workplace is highly transparent, easy to navigate and is an energetic and determined environment that is a true embodiment of the company’s culture and ethos.
