Paths to Abstraction

The Art Gallery of NSW is currently showing a major exhibition of over 150 paintings, drawings and prints which reveals how abstract art emerged around the world, including different movements such as French Impressionism, Primitivism and Cubism. The exhibition also includes work of the some of the most influential artists of the modern era such as Monet, Cezanne and Picasso, who all explored exciting new ways of seeing and imagining.

The artworks are on loan from 59 of the most prestigious art collections in the world including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museu Picasso Barcelona, Centre National d’Art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, Tate Modern and National Gallery of Art, Washington.

In conjunction with the exhibition which runs until September 19, there are free tours with exhibition entry, movie screenings and music in the ArtBar. futurespace will also be hosting a number of corporate viewings, so if you are interested in attending these please give Claire a call on 8917 4555 or claireb@futurespace.com.au

Saturday Indesign

Saturday Indesign

Early in August a number of our team travelled to Melbourne (duty bound of course!) to participate in what is arguably the industry’s most prominent showcase of the design industry in Australia. It was an exhausting few days but well worth the tired feet. We saw cradle to cradle task chairs, innovative locally designed and manufactured workstation systems, stunning new residential furniture and accessories, innovative combinations of carpet tile with fashion and the Wallabies lose yet again to the All Blacks. Not to mention the wonderful food, coffee, fashion and social scene that we all thoroughly enjoy. Oh and we also managed to squeeze in site visits to three of our most recent Melbourne workplace projects … it’s a busy job, but we absolutely love doing it. For more info see the Saturday Indesign website.

Space + Edra Design Residency

Space Furniture recently joined forces with Italian designer manufacturers Edra to create the Space+Edra Design Residency competition. A brief was developed asking designers to create a product around the notion of “Sensory”. The winning designer would then receive the chance to spend a two-month stint at the Edra Headquarters in Italy (near Pisa) followed by a period in the showroom in Milan. futurespace’s Gavin Harris entered his design the Horizon Lounge and was shortlisted as one of 10 finalists from around the country. Gavin’s design was inspired by the Australian native bushland and by his own impending journey into fatherhood.
