Recently, a few of the futurespace team visited Joost at the Miele stand at the Grand Designs Live show held at Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour from 21-23rd October. Not only did we get a pre-opening peek at some of the GDL stands (and a tasty breakfast), Joost was on hand to speak about the construction techniques and thinking behind his Greenhouse project which popped up on the harbour foreshore of Sydney in Feb for 8 weeks.
The venues are constructed from 100 per cent recycled or sustainable materials with a lot of the construction processes being trialed during the building of his family home. Joost has reignited the old renewable v recyclable argument with his decision to build from steel rather than wood.
In Sydney, a rooftop garden grew vegetables and herbs that were served in the restaurant, local and sustainable produce went into the food and the venue was rubbish free - only waste that can be composted was allowed onto the site.
The Greenhouse concept has taken off in a global way with a site opening in London – fingers crossed for a more permanent Sydney site soon!
